Over the past decade, fund sponsors have increasingly used GP-led liquidity transactions to provide liquidity options to LPs, to rebalance portfolios, and to manage assets that have stabilized or need additional capital/time.  The impact of the COVID-19 outbreak is expected drive further growth in transactions.  During this briefing, Damian Jacobs of Kirkland & Ellis, Nicholas Miles of Lazard Private Capital Advisory and Rahul Ghai of Partners Group provided an overview of the market and of GP-led liquidity transactions.

Damian Jacobs is a Partner in the Investment Funds Group at Kirkland & Ellis, having joined the firm in Hong Kong in 2012. Nick Miles joined Lazard over 13 years ago from a consulting background and has been focused on Private Capital Advisory (“PCA”) throughout his tenure with the advisory investment bank; based in Singapore he currently leads the fundraising and liquidity solution activities of Lazard PCA for Asia-Pacific and Europe. Lazard PCA has a leading sponsor-led liquidity solutions practice across real assets and private equity and counts 80 professionals among its staff operating from 7 of Lazard’s 40+ global offices.

Rahul Ghai
Regional Head, Private Real Estate Asia

Rahul Ghai is part of the Asian Private Real Estate business unit, based in Singapore, and is a member of the Private Real Estate Investment Committee, with 15+ years of industry experience. Since joining Partners Group, Rahul has led several large transactions in China and Australia. Prior to Partners Group, he was Head of Transactions, Asia-Pacific, and Head of Real Estate, South East Asia and Australia, at Deutsche Bank Asset Management. During his tenure, he led a team of 14 and completed transactions over USD 1.5 billion across Australia, Korea, Japan and China.  Previously, he also worked for Standard Chartered Bank Principal Finance, Istithmar World and Jones Lang LaSalle. Over the last 15 years, he has led transactions over USD 5 billion across Europe and Asia. He holds a joint MBA from ESSEC Business School, France and Cornell University, New York, USA, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Delhi, India.
