Thomas Liu
Partner, Head of Greater China and North Asia Real Estate
Actis

Thomas was one of the founding members of Standard Chartered Bank’s Principal Finance Real Estate group in 2010 and joined Actis in 2018 when the business was acquired from the bank. He leads the teams in Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong that have completed over USD700 million in opportunistic real estate investments in China and Korea, working with leading developers and high quality operating partners.

Prior to Actis, Thomas has accumulated over two decades of pan-Asian direct investment and advisory experience. He started his career with the Shangri-La group, working on hotel pre-opening projects across Southeast Asia and China. He then joined PKF Consulting and advised Asian developers and owners on projects from India to Indonesia and the Philippines and China. In 1998 he joined the Koos Group and, for nine years, took on different leadership roles in financial advisory as well as direct investment functions in Hong Kong, Thailand, Korea and China for this leading Asian family group. Thomas moved to Beijing in 2004 when he took over the leadership of a real estate development business controlled by the Koos, completed and sold projects including offices, high end residential, hotel and serviced apartments in the greater Beijing and Shanghai areas. He then joined Aetos Capital in 2007 as one of the senior members of the China investment team before joining Standard Chartered Bank in 2010.

Alvin Mah
Chief Executive Officer
Alpha Investment Partners

Alvin  Mah is the Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Investment Partners Limited. He currently sits o the Investment Committee for various funds under management and is also an Executive Director of Alpha's Board. Prior to his current appointment, Alvin served as the Chief Investment Officer, leading all investment efforts including crafting the investment Strategies.

Alvin has been active in Asian finance and investment activities for more than 20 years and has conducted investments in key Asian markets. He is well-versed in various aspects of investment and finance, having played key leadership roles in investment and banking. With a wide-ranging exposure to finance, he has been able to customise structured solutions to meet specific investment objectives and has done pioneering work for structured real estate investments, including Real Estate Investment Trusts and securities.

Alpha Investment Partners Limited is a private fund investment manager and is part of Keppel Capital, the asset management arm of Keppel Corporation Limited.

Stuart Mericer
Managing Director - Real Estate & Country Head of China
Brookfield

Stuart Mercier is a Managing Director and Country Head for China, overseeing all of Brookfield’s operations and institutional relationships. Mr. Mercier also has direct responsibility for Brookfield’s Real Estate activities across Asia including business development, investment and portfolio management.

Mr. Mercier joined Brookfield in Hong Kong in 2012 before relocating to Shanghai to establish Brookfield’s mainland Chinese operations. Prior to joining Brookfield, Mr. Mercier held various investment roles within a boutique Asian real estate investment and advisory firm. He also held various positions at Oxford Properties, the global real estate platform of the OMERS pension fund.

Mr. Mercier received a BA from Bishop’s University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Hong Kong and London Business School, where he was the recipient of the Haitong Securities “New Generation of Leaders” scholarship. Mr. Mercier serves on the board of the Canada China Business Council and is a Global Governing Trustee of the Urban Land Institute.

 

 

James Shepherd
Head of Research - Greater China

During his 25-year real estate career as a general practice surveyor, James Shepherd has dealt with all major property types including industrial, retail, office, residential, hotels and serviced apartments and has specialist experience in a variety of areas including research, valuation and due diligence. Having worked in Asia since 1998, James is currently based in Shanghai and prior to this he was located in Hong Kong.

The Cushman & Wakefield Research team report regularly on 53 markets across Asia-Pacific, produce cutting-edge thought leadership, and have won numerous awards. Cushman & Wakefield run an annual China Outbound Investment Survey which follows the ANREV Investment Intentions Survey in March.

Thaili Chi

Mr. Chi has more than 10 years of experiences in real estate fund management and investment globally. He joined KaiLong in 2016 and is responsible for fund raising and outbound investment.

Prior to joining KaiLong, Mr. Chi was the Senior Director of Tishman Speyer’s Equity Capital Markets group where he focused on outbound investments and RMB fund raising. Prior to that, Mr. Chi was at Partners Group where he led the Greater China private real estate portfolio since 2010 and was responsible for both fund and direct investments as well as portfolio management for the Greater China region. Mr. Chi began his career in the Investment Banking Division of Deutsche Bank AG focusing on public listings and mergers & acquisitions.
