Charles Haase
Chief Executive
ANREV

Charles Haase is Chief Executive of ANREV, the Asian Association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles. ANREV is a member driven non-profit organization producing research and indices relevant to the private real estate industry in Asia Pacific, and promoting improved transparency and best practices across the region.

Prior to joining ANREV, Charlie had experience on both sides of the investment table, working for Aetos Japan and Tokyu Fudosan Holdings Corporation in Tokyo, and for the California State Teachers’ Retirement System in the United States. Prior to joining CalSTRS, Charlie was on the Economics faculty of San Francisco State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Davis.

Koichiro (Ko) Obu

Mr. Obu joined the company in 2007. With more than 20 years of experience in real estate research, he is responsible for building strategies and coordinating coverage of real estate markets in Asia Pacific. He also heads real estate team in Japan since 2023. Before joining, he was Head of real estate and construction team at Corporate Research Department at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in Tokyo (SMBC) and was also a senior researcher at SMBC in London covering the real estate sector in Europe.

Koichiro holds BA in Economics from University of Tokyo.

Matthias Naumann

Joined the Company in 2013 with 8 years of industry experience. Matthias joined DWS in 2013 as the Head of Strategy, Real Estate. In June 2019, he was appointed to Chief Investment Officer, Real Estate for Europe also covering APAC in a caretaker capacity since January 2021. Matthias has relocated from Frankfurt to Sydney effective from March 1st, 2024 to have a greater focus on the APAC region. He is chairing the APAC RE Investment Committee, co-chairing the Global Investment Committee and is member of the Europe & APAC Real Estate Leadership Team. Prior to joining DWS, Matthias served as a senior analyst at AXA Investment Managers, London. Previously, he was an analyst with focus on Germany and CEE at Invesco Real Estate GmbH. Matthias started his career as a portfolio analyst with focus on Germany and Switzerland at Investment Property Databank Ltd., London.

Matthias holds a post-graduate engineering degree from TU Dortmund University.

Matthew Berg

Matt Berg is the co-Founder and co-CEO of Local, a Build to Rent (BTR) business who have just opened their first asset of 477 apartments in Melbourne with an additional pipeline of over 830 apartments under construction, and a target of 10,000 homes by 2030.  

Matt’s previous roles have seen him structure and fund over $4bn of property developments across various sectors. Alongside Local’s Co-CEO Dan McLennan, Matt has been in the BTR industry for over 9 years and is responsible for the delivery and origination of over 3,000 apartments.

Local’s goal is to create a scalable ESG-focused BTR product, giving everyday Australians the chance to live and belong in places they want to, for as long as they like.

Joshua Tan
Managing Director
Macquarie Asset Management

Josh is a Managing Director for MAM Real Estate, responsible for originating and managing opportunistic real estate investments in Australia.

Josh has worked across several of the firm’s successful opportunistic investments across the globe. In the US, he played a key role in establishing MAM’s manufactured housing platform with RHP Properties Inc. in 2017, establishing multiple ventures, executing asset acquisitions, and developing processes for the platform which now has AUM of US$1.6 billion. Josh has also led MAM Real Estate’s investment into data centres, with an investment via a partnership with NTT Global Data Centers located in Amsterdam. He is currently leading MAM’s investment in Local Residential, a growing build-to-rent platform in Australia.

Prior to joining the MAM Real Estate Team in 2017, Josh was part of the Macquarie Capital team based in Melbourne advising corporate and private equity clients on mergers and acquisitions, public equity raisings, and debt capital markets.

Josh holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in finance, as well as the Bachelor of Commerce and Finance Honours Medal, from the University of Melbourne.
