This webinar session was successfully held on Wednesday, 26 June. We discussed the $14T+ U.S. mortgage market and the compelling investment landscape in residential credit today.
We covered the regional banking dislocation, supply demand imbalance, aging U.S. housing stock, record home equity, positive demographics and the two track economy shaping the U.S. consumer backdrop that is driving the opportunity forward. Residential credit offers investment opportunities across diverse credit and duration profiles including the following:

Speakers
Matthew Nichols is a Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Residential Credit at Pretium, where he is responsible for management of the residential credit business.
Mr. Nichols joined Pretium in 2019 with over 20 years of experience in mortgage whole loans. Prior to joining Pretium, Mr. Nichols was the CEO and Founder of Deephaven Mortgage, which was acquired by Pretium in 2019. Prior to founding Deephaven, Mr. Nichols was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs where he was Co-Head of Residential Loan Trading. Over his twelve years at Goldman, Mr. Nichols built and ran multiple non-agency loan acquisition, origination, servicing, and securitization businesses.
Mr. Nichols is a member of Pretium’s Executive Committee. He holds a BA in Biochemistry from Amherst College.
Jonathan Babkow is a Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Residential Credit at Pretium, where he is responsible for the management of the residential credit business.
Mr. Babkow joined Pretium in 2018 with over 25 years of experience in mortgage trading and investing. Prior to joining Pretium, Mr. Babkow was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, where he was most recently Head of Residential Loan Trading. Prior to that, he was a Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns where he oversaw the Global Distressed Residential Loan business , Mortgage Servicing business and the Residential Mortgage Origination businesses in Europe and Asia.
Mr. Babkow is a member of Pretium’s Executive Committee. He received a BS from Franklin & Marshall College, where he serves on the Board of Trustees.
Lew Semones is currently a Board Member of Deephaven Mortgage LLC and Simple Mills. He also serves as a General Partner at The Spectrum Companies where he assists with capital raising and investor relations.
Mr. Semones began his career at Interstate-Johnson Lane (acquired by Wachovia Securities) where he held various executive positions including Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accounting Officer. Mr. Semones joined Wachovia as Co-President before launching a Long Short Heade Fund, Morgan Semones, in 2001. In 2005 Mr. Semones joined Goldman Sachs as Chief Executive Officer of Mortgages, holding the position for 7 years. Throughout his career, Mr. Semones has also held multiple advisor positions including at Buffalo Jackson Clothing Company and Anchor Loans.
He received a BA from Lenoir-Rhyne University.
