The prospects for RE investment in Asia in a post COVID world

COVID-19 has accelerated and reinforced key structural themes in Asia Pacific, from economic digitalisation to accelerating ESG requirements. These present opportunities across the region’s real estate sectors that investors can capitalise on to build a more future-proof portfolio. In this session, Ms Ng Chiang Ling, Mr Richard van den Berg and Mr Jonathan Hsu of M&G Real Estate shared some of the investment prospects in APAC post-COVID.

Chiang Ling joined M&G Real Estate in 2014 and was a director of acquisitions prior to taking on her current role in 2016. She started her career in real estate investing in 1998 and brings to M&G Real Estate broad experience in investing across property sectors and the capital structure, including real estate-related debt and pre-IPO investments in key markets of Asia Pacific.
Chiang Ling is a graduate of Princeton University, U.S.A and holds a B.S.E. degree in Electrical Engineering.
Richard joined M&G Real Estate in Singapore in August 2017 as the Fund Manager for M&G Asia Property Fund, responsible for investment strategy and fund performance with oversight of acquisitions, divestments and asset management. Richard has been actively involved in Asian real estate management since 1989 with previous roles in Hong Kong at the Mass Transit Railway Corporation, Rodamco Asia, ING Real Estate and CBRE Global Investors. His previous roles span the full range of real estate investment activities in asset management, investment and fund management across Asia Pacific. Prior to joining M&G Real Estate, Richard was Managing Director, Executive Committee member and Investment Committee member of CBRE Global Investors based in Hong Kong covering Asia Pacific with direct responsibility for Greater China.
Richard holds a MSc in Architecture from Delft University and an MBA from Erasmus University Rotterdam, both in the Netherlands.
Jonathan works closely with the wider research team in London and play a key role in feeding into global strategy decisions and generating new investment ideas and insights to form new investment initiatives. Along with the rest of the research team, Jonathan will drive the development of investment views on Asia-Pacific real estate markets and make strategic and tactical recommendations for investments across these markets, supporting the investment objectives of M&G Real Estate property portfolios.
Prior to joining M&G Real Estate in February 2017, he was Associate Director at Invesco Real Estate Hong Kong, responsible for conducting market studies and presenting market views, forecasts, and key fund strategies to investors. He has also held various senior positions at CBRE Limited, Barclays and UBS in Hong Kong. Jonathan holds a B.S in Management Science with a focus on Finance from the University of California, San Diego.
