At this session, Varun Singh of Allianz Real Estate, Ankur Gupta of Brookfield, Piyush Gupta of Colliers International and Naresh Nadkarni of HDFC Property Ventures shared with us their views on the latest investment trends in India and the market sector outlook, as well as the strategies they are employing to deal with this unprecedented economic situation.

Presenters Bios
Varun Singh is a Director in Allianz Real Estate Asia Pacific and heads the India & Southeast Asia business.
Prior to joining Allianz in 2019, Varun was leading Singapore real estate acquisitions for JPMAM. He was directly involved with and led investments in Singapore across all sectors for JPMAM's flagship Strategic Property Fund Asia, an open-ended core fund focused on Asia Pacific gateway cities. Previously, Varun spent 9 years investing in Indian real estate market focused on equity and debt investment opportunities.
Varun graduated from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, and received his MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
Ankur Gupta is a Managing Partner in Brookfield's Property Group and Head of Real Estate business in India, responsible for all aspects of property business in the country including strategy, investments, and asset management.
Mr. Gupta has held numerous senior roles within the firm. Previously, he was a senior member of Brookfield's property investments team in New York where he was involved in investments and financings totaling more than $25 billion including IDI Logistics, Capital Automotive REIT, Associated Estates, Forest City Realty Trust and a strategic venture with Macy's. Mr. Gupta has also overseen the establishment and growth of Brookfield's real estate business in India that spans more than 30 million SF of office assets and led the recent foray into hospitality through acquisition of the Hotel Leela business.
Mr. Gupta has more than 14 years of experience in Real Estate. Prior to joining Brookfield in 2012, Mr. Gupta worked for a leading real estate development firm.
Mr. Gupta received his MBA with Dean's Honors from Columbia Business School and holds a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
Piyush is responsible for developing Capital Market Business in India.
Piyush is leading the Client acquisition, developing institutional relationships with Indian and Global Funds, Sovereign Funds, Banks, NBFCs, AIFs for Capital Markets Business.
With close to 19 years of experience, Piyush is an industry veteran with proven expertise in real estate investments, asset management and exit strategy, deployment and business development. With experience of investing of US$2 billion across Debt and Equity, Piyush is leading Colliers Capital Markets business in India and strengthen the market position of the organization with clear focus on servicing our clients across the spectrum.
Piyush joined Colliers from Piramal Capital in February 2020 where he was managing the Debt and Equity portfolios across various Real Estate asset classes. Having executed over US$2 billion across Debt and Equity deals in his vast and illustrious career, Piyush has witnessed the entire cycle of investment from deal origination to exit. At Piramal, he was handling large portfolios across the residential & commercial assets including large corporates and SMEs.
Mr. Naresh Nadkarni is the Chief Investment Officer of HDFC Venture Capital Limited (HVCL). He joined the Investment Management team of HVCL in October 2005. The company successfully announced the closing of India's first real estate venture fund scheme, HDFC India Real Estate Fund. The US $225mm fund is a seven-year closed-ended scheme, which invests in equity and equity-linked instruments of companies engaged primarily in real estate. The Fund currently has three schemes amounting approximately to $1.1bn.
Mr. Naresh Nadkarni, a Civil Engineering graduate from the University of Mumbai, has cumulative experience in real estate of over 30 years. He started his career in 1984 with Gujarat State Fertilizer Corporation and joined HDFC Ltd. in 1988.
He was formerly heading HDFC Realty, a wholly owned subsidiary of HDFC Ltd. as Chief Executive Officer. His responsibilities include structuring sale-lease property transactions in an advisory capacity by providing advice on the financial and legal feasibility of the transactions, carrying out real estate valuations and conducting research on real estate trends.
He was a Deputy General Manager with HDFC and had previously worked on various assignments including appraisal of real estate projects and monitoring the mortgage finance to them, formulation of internal strategies and policies for developer finance, research and maintenance of an efficient level of MIS, assessment of investment potential in real estate and conducting training workshops and developer funding for the various branches. He has undertaken special projects like examining the feasibility of floating a real estate mutual fund, development of a real estate price index etc.
