Presenters Bios
Joy Lam is a Partner of Sidley Austin. Her practice focuses primarily on investment funds and covers a wide range of investment fund formation transactions, including real estate funds, private equity funds and tokenized funds. Joy’s real estate fund formation experience has included a complex first-of-its-kind offshore fund utilizing onshore feeder structures, single asset and development site funds, debt funds and blind pool funds. Joy also advises clients within the virtual assets ecosystem on tokenized funds, other tokenized offerings and on the rapidly evolving regulatory requirements for managing virtual assets and her experience in this segment includes advising on the formation of Asia’s first two tokenized funds.
Joy has been featured among the “Rising Stars – Investment Funds” of Expert Guides in 2020 and was named a “Rising Star” by Law360 in its 2018 annual report that recognizes the “top legal talent under 40” who are practicing at a level “usually seen from veteran attorneys.”
Nigel is a partner in KPMG’s Hong Kong Tax practice. He has over twenty years of experience in advising multinational and local clients on tax advisory and compliance matters having worked in Australia, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
Nigel has advised MNC’s and fund groups establish their operations and assisted with tax due diligence and structuring their investments. This has involved structuring equity, hybrid and distressed debt investments across various industries and sectors, including infrastructure, real estate, agriculture, technology, financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, consumer and FinTech.
Nigel has advised global FinTech companies on all aspects of their business including taxation of ICOs, sale of cryptocurrency and securitization of tokens among other matters.
Philip Pang is Chief Commercial Officer of Liquefy, a venture-backed FinTech platform which simplifies and streamlines the primary issuance and administration of financial instruments with blockchain technology and tokenization for real estate, funds, and private companies. Previously with Colliers International, advising institutional asset owners and multinational occupiers. Mentor for TechStars Colliers PropTech Accelerator, a global initiative to develop and bring to market new property technologies. Philip is also an Advisor to Genesis Block, a leading digital assets OTC trading centre in Asia.
Rita Lau is an Associate Director of Valuation and Advisory Service team at Colliers International (Hong Kong) Limited. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She completed the Chartered Valuer and Appraiser Programme in Singapore in Nov 2019.
Rita joined Colliers International in 2019 with over 11 years of experience in audit and business valuation. She started her career in the audit and assurance department of PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong. Her expertise includes business enterprise valuation, purchase price allocation, intangible assets valuation, and impairment tests. She has assisted many companies with valuation projects for IPO, M&A, and financial reporting purposes.
