During this briefing, a panel of experts explored the impact of COVID-19 to Australian's Hotel sector and how ESG fitting into the plan. Amélie Delaunay of ANREV, Dr Sabine Schaffer of Pro-Invest, Ruben Langbroek of GRESB and Carlos Flores of NABERS shared with us their views from different perspectives.

Dr.Sabine Schaffer is Managing Partner at Pro-invest Group, focusing on structure and asset management of the Group’s funds. Pro-invest Group is an asset manager and investment firm which was established in 2010 from industry veterans who have been active in the Private Equity Real Estate space for more than two decades. With close to AUD 2 billion assets under management, Pro-invest Group specialises in Private Equity Real Estate and Real Estate Asset Management and have become one of the largest hotel investment platforms in Australasia.
With more than 30 sector-specific specialists in the Sydney office, the Group operates as a locally established, integrated private equity real estate business combining active asset management, development and operational capabilities, providing our investors with above industry risk-adjusted returns in the hospitality, commercial and retail space.
Sabine has an extensive track record in private equity real estate, having over 20 years experience in setting up and managing Private Equity Funds, sourcing co-investment opportunities as well as capital markets. Sabine has focused on the Real Estate side, where she worked on the set up of a Real Estate Development Fund in the Gulf Cooperation Council region for newly built office buildings. At Pro-invest Group, Sabine oversees the asset management side of the business. The primary responsibilities of her team are the structuring of Real Estate investment vehicles, the fund management of the various hotel portfolios, procuring equity as well as bank financing as well as looking after reporting to all stakeholders.
Sabine holds a Master’s degree from Harvard University as well as PhD in Economics from Leopold Franzens University, Innsbruck, Austria.
Ruben Langbroek is Head of Asia Pacific for GRESB. Mission-driven and investor-led, GRESB is the environmental, social and governance (ESG) benchmark for real assets. GRESB works in collaboration with the industry to provide standardized and validated ESG data to the capital markets. More than 100 institutional investors, with over USD 22 trillion in AUM, use GRESB data to monitor their investments, engage with their managers, and make decisions that lead to a more sustainable real asset industry.
Ruben is responsible for the strategic development of GRESB in Asia Pacific, by strengthening and further developing GRESB’s relationship with institutional investors, investment managers, asset operators, and industry associations.
Ruben has extensive experience in the real asset investment sector and has been working in the Asia Pacific region for the last decade. He previously worked at a Dutch fund manager, and at JLL in the Netherlands, Hong Kong and in Singapore. Ruben holds Master degrees n Building Engineering and in Real Estate, Investments.
Amélie Delaunay is the Director of Research and Professional Standards for ANREV. She is responsible for the development and implementation of ANREV’s Research, Performance Measurement and Professional Standards programmes in Asia Pacific, including market information and performance indices, global surveys and promotion of best practices for the industry.
Amélie has more than 17 years of experience in the real estate industry and a strong real estate consulting background initially with Ernst & Young. She has been based in Asia for more than 13 years.
Educated at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she was awarded a post graduate degree in Urban Geography, Town Planning and Real Estate, Amélie also has an Advanced Master's Degree in Urban and Real Estate Management from ESSEC Business School in Paris. Amélie is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Carlos Flores is the National Program Manager at the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS). He is responsible for all aspects of the delivery of NABERS, Australia’s most successful sustainability program, and one of the country’s longest-running government environmental initiatives. NABERS is Australia’s flagship sustainability benchmarking scheme, which has been instrumental in helping Australian companies to top multiple international sustainability rankings in the past decade.
Carlos was born and raised in Chile, and has worked in Australia for the past nine years. He is a Mechanical Engineer by trade and a regular speaker at sustainability conferences in Australia and overseas.
