This webinar was the second instalment in a series, which looked at material issues in the sustainability performance of real estate investments.  In this series, presenters from leading organizations took us through their ESG practices, as well as touching upon key components of GRESB’s Real Estate Assessment.

At this session, Amélie Delaunay, Director of Research and Professional Standards at ANREV joined by Ruben Langbroek, Head of Asia Pacific at GRESB provided an introduction of ANREV’s ESG initiatives and GRESB’s Real Estate Assessment; followed by presentations by Tom Miller, Senior Managing Director – Head of Development and Sustainability at LaSalle Investment Management, and Feng Lu, Managing Director – Projects, Real Estate Group at CITIC Capital Holdings, who touched upon the ESG practices of their respective organizations, with a slight focus on the Performance component of GRESB’s assessment

Tom Miller

Senior Managing Director

Head of Development and Sustainability Asia Pacific

LaSalle Investment Management

Tom joined LaSalle in 2008 as the Head of Development for Asia. He and his team are responsible for executing development and major construction projects for LaSalle fund assets in Asia including projects in Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, and Australia.

Tom also serves as the Regional Sustainability Officer for Asia responsible for the development and execution of LaSalle’s ESG program in the region.  He also oversees the regional environmental and physical due diligence processes for new Asian acquisitions.

Prior to joining LaSalle, Tom held numerous senior roles globally in the real estate and construction sectors, including 13 years with Bovis Lend Lease in the UK, Spain, Singapore, Philippines and Southern California.  

Tom holds a Master of Science degree in Real Estate from the University of Hong Kong, an Executive MBA from IE Business School in Madrid, a Master’s degree in Engineering Administration from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

He is also a RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) Chartered Planning and Development Surveyor,  and has completed the Business Sustainability Management Program at he the University of Cambridge – Institute for Sustainability Leadership.

LU, Feng

Managing Director - Projects, Real Estate Group

CITIC Capital Holdings Limited

Lu Feng has more than 20 years of experience in engineering design and project management overseas, Hong Kong and PRC. He is currently a Managing Director with CITIC Capital’s Real Estate Group responsible for technical aspects of real estate investments.  

Mr. Lu joined CITIC Capital in 2006.  He previously worked with HK Cheng & Partners Ltd then Maunsell Group in Hong Kong as a Project Engineer, and later became Project Manager with Maunsell China (now AECOM Asia) operations. Mr. Lu was responsible for design and management of many projects, including some prominent residential and commercial developments in Hong Kong and China.

Mr. Lu has been responsible for managing all technical aspects of the real estate investment funds managed by CITIC Capital, including design, engineering construction and environmental sustainability.

Mr. Lu holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Harbin Architectural and Civil Engineering Institute, a Master of Engineering Degree from McGill University and was a Ph.D. candidate at McGill University.  He obtained an EMBA diploma from Fudan University. In addition, Mr. Lu was a published author, a member of HKIE and member of Institution of Structural Engineers, U.K, serving as a member of the Sustainability Panel and Continued Development Panel, and Professional Reviewer of Part 3 Examination. He also serves as a member of the Committee for Sustainability of Asian Association for Investors in non-listed real estate vehicles (ANREV).

Amélie Delaunay

Director, Research & Professional Standards

ANREV

Amélie Delaunay is the Director of Research and Professional Standards for ANREV. She is responsible for the development and implementation of ANREV’s Research, Performance Measurement and Professional Standards programmes in Asia Pacific, including market information and performance indices, global surveys and promotion of best practices for the industry.

Amélie has more than 17 years of experience in the real estate industry and a strong real estate consulting background initially with Ernst & Young. She has been based in Asia for more than 13 years.

Educated at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she was awarded a post graduate degree in Urban Geography, Town Planning and Real Estate, Amélie also has an Advanced Master's Degree in Urban and Real Estate Management from ESSEC Business School in Paris. Amélie is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Ruben Langbroek

Head of Asia Pacific

GRESB

Ruben Langbroek is Head of Asia Pacific for GRESB. Mission-driven and investor-led, GRESB is the environmental, social and governance (ESG) benchmark for real assets. GRESB works in collaboration with the industry to provide standardized and validated ESG data to the capital markets. More than 100 institutional investors, with over USD 22 trillion in AUM, use GRESB data to monitor their investments, engage with their managers, and make decisions that lead to a more sustainable real asset industry.

Ruben is responsible for the strategic development of GRESB in Asia Pacific, by strengthening and further developing GRESB’s relationship with institutional investors, investment managers, asset operators, and industry associations.

Ruben has extensive experience in the real asset investment sector and has been working in the Asia Pacific region for the last decade. He previously worked at a Dutch fund manager, and at JLL in the Netherlands, Hong Kong and in Singapore.  Ruben holds Master degrees n Building Engineering and in Real Estate, Investments.
