ABOUT THE SEMINAR

This seminar will cover the latest industry and regulatory updates relating to investment funds in the following areas:

  • Valuations of financial assets - Certain financial assets are required to be recorded at fair value for financial reporting purposes. In the case of publicly traded assets or securities, fair value measurement would be a relatively straight forward exercise. However, what if trading of these were suspended? How should fair value be measured? In this segment, Ms. Cheung will first examine the circumstances under which traded shares are suspended. Next, she will give an overview of the common valuation methodologies and assess their relatives pros and cons. Finally, she will discuss how specific circumstances may alter the appropriateness of a valuation methodology.
  • Key market and regulatory developments in asset management in Hong Kong - Mr. Lee will take the audience through some of the recent market and regulatory developments in the asset management space in Hong Kong. They include the key findings in the SFC’s latest Fund Management Activities Survey, the announcement of the Mainland-Hong Kong Mutual Recognition of Funds, and the revamp of the SFC’s fund authorization process. Mr. Lee will also share with the audience the SFC’s ongoing regulatory focus related to the fund industry, for example, on the risks surrounding liquidity management and valuation of funds.
  • Update on the Regulatory Matters of MPF Schemes – Some of the recent key market developments and regulatory reforms in the MPF industry will be discussed including the default investment strategy and the streamlining of scheme administration. The MPFA’s ongoing regulatory focus, and the challenges and opportunities arose from the latest market developments and regulatory reform will also be shared with the audience.
